Hi, my name is Brandi, and I am the mom to two incredible heart warriors, Winston and Della. Both of my children were born with congenital heart defects, a journey I never imagined but one that has shaped every part of who I am as a mother.
Winston is almost four and was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. He has already undergone two open-heart surgeries and will face a third within the next couple of years. Della, who is almost two, was born with a transitional AV canal along with a few other cardiac complexities, and she has had one open-heart surgery so far.
As any heart mom or medical mom would tell you, there are constant ups and downs that come with diagnoses, surgeries, recoveries and the ongoing management of complex medical conditions. While we have faced many of those challenges, this journey has only drawn us closer to God and closer to each other as a family. It has taught my husband and me to be fully present, to trust deeply, and to cherish every moment we get to watch our children grow and thrive.
Today, our kids are active, joyful, and full of life. We feel truly honored to be their parents. As we know more surgeries are ahead, we continue to pray for their health and healing, and we look forward to all the things they will get to experience in their lives and the testimonies they will one day share. They are strong, resilient children, and we know their strength comes only by the grace of God.
